Cote de Ivoire and Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba, has been crowned the French Ligue 1's best striker of the past 20 years.

From 1998 to 2004, Drogba graced the French league by scoring a total of 51 goals in 144 appearances for Le Mans(1998–2002), Guingamp(2002-2003) and Marseille(2003-2004).

The former Galatasaray striker won the award with 51 per cent of the 40,094 votes that were cast. Voting was held on Ligue 1's official Twitter account.

After three good seasons representing Guingamp and Marseille, Roman Abrahamovic's Chelsea secured the signing to the prolific striker to the Premier League where he became a goal-scoring machine.

The 42-year-old was delighted to receive the honour and tweeted: "Wow what recognition from the fans, thank you @EAGuingamp @OM_Officiel for allowing me to experience these incredible emotions.

"Great respect to all strikers who have played in the French championship."[Tribal Football]
