Drama as Senate prevents Senator Natasha from entering premises

Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, was prevented from entering the Senate on Tuesday.

According to videos circulating on social media, Natasha's vehicle was prevented from entering the Senate premises by security guards.

The suspended lawmaker had vowed to resume on Tuesday, citing a court statement as supportive of her decision.

The court had advised that the Senate should allow Natasha to resume so that she could continue to represent her constituents.

However, counsel to the Senate clarified that the court's statement was an advisory opinion and not a ruling. The counsel further stated that it could not be acted upon, as it wasn't the reason why Natasha went to court in the first place.

The Senate then vowed to prevent her resumption until she fully serves a six-month ban issued to her for flouting house rules.

This was enforced on Tuesday when Natasha tried to resume her duty at the Senate.

The suspended lawmaker then alighted from her vehicle and walked towards the premises flanked by activist Aisha Yesufu.

The drama began at plenary a few months ago when Natasha refused to address the Senate from the new seat assigned to her.

She later went on national TV to accuse Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment, basing that on his reason for refusing to hear her address at the Senate.

Her unruly actions at the plenary session on the said day prompted a disciplinary action, resulting in a six-month ban.
