Sam George, the MP for Ningo-Prampram Constituency in Ghana, has waded in following an outcry from Ghanaians after an Igbo man from Nigeria, Eze Dr. Amb. Chukwudi Ihenetu, reportedly established an Igbo kingdom in the country.
Parading himself as the Igbo King in Ghana, Ihenetu is reported to have acquired 50 acres of land to build an Igbo village in the country.
Ghanaians have reportedly kicked against the move, saying it is alien to their culture and an attempt at expansionism.
Reacting, the MP representing Ningo-Prampram Constituency, in a post on X, said no king has any kingdom in his constituency, warning that the hospitality of the region should not be taken for granted.
George shared, "No 'King' has any kingdom or land in the Ningo-Prampram Constituency. Disregard any such claims. The ancient Great Ningo kingdom is welcoming to all who visit us, but none is welcome to lay claim to a kingdom here.
"Rest assured, we are a hospitable people, but our hospitality CANNOT be taken for granted. Let calm prevail."
Reacting, an X user, @AseyeBae, said, "Please can you look into his land acquisition properly and then based on that refute his claims with evidence, not words. Because there are videos and pictures of him with the President circulating online, giving some Ghanaians the impression it’s an NDC-backed agenda."
@BoakyeChinar said, "@Sam George Dear Honorable, I wish you well. Please take your time and listen to your people. What the youths are saying about the Igbo king is true. Go and watch the interview and everything is captured in that interview. Please don’t brush this off. Ask for the video."
@RichiejoeGH said, "There are videos of the said individual outlining his plans as to how he intends to use the land purchased, how they intend to build a settlement for his tribesmen, and streets bearing names of their Igbo 'heroes' such as Nnamdi Azikiwe, etc."
