A female pastor at Spring of Solutions Ministries in Lagos has issued a stern warning to unmarried women regarding financial independence, advising against entering marriage without personal income or an established career.
Prophetess Eunice Odinaka made this known during a sermon in a video that has since gone viral on social media. Addressing single women, the prophetess emphasised that financial stability is essential for women to maintain autonomy within and after a marriage.
She explained that women without their own means often find themselves trapped in unhealthy partnerships simply because they lack the resources to restart their lives independently.
"If you are a young lady and you cannot pay for your flight ticket, don't marry. If you don't have a job, don't marry. If you don't have anything you are doing whatsoever, don't marry," she warned.
"A man can navigate his life, but a woman cannot navigate her life inside marriage. It is very hard. That is why you see some women, when they get married to someone who is not for them, will stay in the marriage. Not because they cannot come out, but because they are thinking of how to start all over again," she added.
According to her, such a plan is necessary because the marital dynamics of today require both the man and woman to contribute to help sustain the marriage.
"And the marriages of today are not the same as the marriages of our fathers. Men of today want a helper," she said.
“If you are a young lady and you don’t have a job or anything you are doing, don’t get married. A man can navigate his life, but a woman may find it difficult to do so within marriage.
