Lere Olayinka, an aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged people not to be deceived by human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, over the ground rent charged by the FCT.

This was after Falana appeared on Channels Television's Politics Today program to condemn the threat by Wike to seal properties owing ground rent in the FCT.

According to Falana, the minister has to go to court to get the money, instead of sealing the properties.

"The rule of law must be allowed to operate. Yes, people are owing. Too bad. But if you want to collect your money, you must go to court,” Falana said.

He directed the FCT Minister to the Urban and Regional Planning Tribunal in Abuja.

“That is the body that has the final say on demolition and attempts to seal up properties,” the lawyer said.

“In other words, anybody who is aggrieved by the threat to seal up a property is advised to go to court. We are operating a democracy,” he added

Reacting, Wike's aide slammed the lawyer, saying, "Buoda Femi Falana must be looking for new clients.

"He knows the provisions of Section 28, Subsections (a) and (b) of the Land Use Act, but he will pretend not to know, just as he was on Channels TV then, saying THREE lawmakers in a House of Assembly of 32 members can pass budget.

"Section 28, Subsections (a) and (b) of the Land Use Act provides that:
'The Government may revoke a Statutory Right of Occupancy on the ground of; (a) a breach of any of the provisions which a certificate of occupancy is by Section 10 deemed to contain; and (b) a breach of any term contained in the Certificate of Occupancy.'

"In the FCT, if you are owing Ground Rent or any levy associated with your landed property, go and pay.

"Don't let Buoda Femi Falana deceive you."
