A former Director General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Joe Abah, has advised people attending village events to bring their own kola to avoid eating the one served.
In a post on X, he also advised that men should not eat or drink anything served to them at the event unless it was presented by their wives.
He said, "When in the village, go to events with your own kola in your right pocket. If they share kola and give you, put it in your left pocket (to be thrown away later) and bring out your own kola from your right pocket and eat. Stay guided! Uwaa wu pawpaw mehn, yaw!
"I am Ezemmuo. I know things.
"In the village, don’t drink or eat anything in public unless it is served to you by your mother or your wife."
Sensing that Joe Abah's advice is to ensure people avoid food poisoning, a netizen, @sunnyjoelove, said, "Dr in all we do is always Good to know that something must kill a man."
Responding, Joe Abah said, "That is if you are a small boy or an inconsequential man. It is not honourable for a titled man to die like a chicken."
His words were disregarded by @lyfisupreme, who blamed movie fictions for such beliefs. He said, "This is one of the damaging narratives Nollywood has created, which is not healthy for consumption. There are isolated cases, but pinning it to the village is evil and wrong."
@onuhjohno said, "If you can't trust your own kits and kins, why attend events with them? We should avoid stereotyping villagers or creating fears in the minds of the younger generations that villagers are evil."
@KennethOdoemene said, "Sir, I will disagree with you on this; it might be happening in your village. But in my place, nothing of such. We drink and eat with each other."
