The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, has said that the United Kingdom would deny visas to any Nigerian who disrupts the upcoming 2023 elections.

She urged Nigerians to opt for free, fair and credible elections in 2023.

According to Vanguard Laing, noted that the United Kingdom (UK) has hinted that they would deny visas to Nigerians who disrupt the 2023 elections.

She made this known on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, in Port Harcourt during her visit to River's state.

Madam Laing also called on Governor Nyesom Wike and the Minister for Transportation, Rotimi Ameachi to ensure they establish positive legacies as the 2023 election approaches.

The envoy said:

“I do have some sympathy for Nigeria because if we as the UK have one of these problems your country is having today, we will be struggling. Here, you deal with everything, from insurgency to kidnapping, to piracy off the Gulf of Guinea and you don’t have such a large army and police force for a country of this size."

Laing expressed her desire to see young presidential candidates and women contesting for the highest seat in the country.
