Discos announce electricity restoration after national grid collapse in Nigeria

Electricity distribution companies have said that electricity supply has been restored in parts of their franchise after the national grid experienced a system disturbance on Monday.

Abuja and Port Harcourt Discos disclosed this in separate statements on their X on Monday night.

This comes after the national grid collapsed around 2 pm on Monday, leaving parts of the country in darkness.

However, hours after the grid, operators said its restoration had begun.

At midnight Monday, electricity allocated to Discos rose to 3,411 megawatts, up from 50 megawatts when the grid experienced collapse.

Confirming nationwide electricity restoration, AEDC said power supply has progressively been restored across parts of its franchise following improvement in energy availability from the National Grid.

“Further to our earlier notice regarding our loss of supply from the national grid, we wish to inform you that our energy availability has improved.

“As a result, power supply has been progressively restored across parts of our franchise area. Restoration efforts are ongoing to ensure full stabilization of supply,” AEDC wrote in a notice on X.

Similarly, Port Harcourt Disco informed its customers to “kindly note that our feeders are gradually being restored.”

DAILY POST reports that Monday’s grid collapse is the fourth experienced by Nigerians in 2025.
