Despite hardship Tinubu’s govt spends N9.2bn on State House Vehicles

A report shows that President Bola Tinubu’s administration spent N9.2 billion on motor vehicles between March and May 2024.

A review of the Public Payments platform Open Treasury portal shows that in March 2024, the sum of N1.904billion was recorded as being used to purchase motor vehicles.

In May, another sum of N7.3 billion was spent on buying motor vehicles by the State House, totalling N9.2 billion in the three-month period.

This comes following an earlier report of Tinubu’s government spending N366 million on tyres in three days among other lavish expenses with payments made on May 21, 2024, June 22, 2023, and June 24, 2023.

It was reported that there was a single-day expenditure of N42.8 million on June 22, 2023, for “State House” tyres.

Another sum of N86.2 million was spent to purchase tyres on June 24. The description read “Purchase of Tyres for State House.” Two payments were registered on May 21, 2024.

The Presidency spent N38 million on the supply of five nos S600/222 armoured/bullet proof tyres. Another sum of N200.5 million was paid for the supply of tyres for bullet-proof vehicles to the State House, Abuja.

According to the Govspend platform, a total of N366 million was spent by the presidency in three days on the purchase of tyres.

On July 17, 2024, the presidency spent N1.5 billion on foreign exchange. Following the amount spent by the presidency, there has been a high-level of scrutiny of Tinubu’s administration's fiscal discipline.

These government expenses come at a time when citizens are struggling due to the economic challenges in the country.
