Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has added another major achievement to his career after winning Album of the Year at the 2026 African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) with his latest project, 5ive.

The win was announced on Tuesday, September 15, through AFRIMMA's official Instagram page, following the awards and music festival held on September 12 at Annette Strauss Square in Dallas, Texas, marking AFRIMMA's return after a two-year break.

Davido entered the ceremony as the most-nominated artiste of the night, picking up five nominations across major categories, including Artist of the Year, Best Male West Africa, the Crossing Boundaries With Music Award, and Album of the Year for 5ive. His collaboration with Omah Lay, "With You," also earned nods for Best Collaboration and Song of the Year.

5ive emerged ahead of a stacked list of nominees, including Burna Boy's No Sign of Weakness, Asake's M$NEY, Omah Lay's Clarity of Mind and Black Sherif's Top of The Morning Era. Other contenders in the category were Tyla for A-Pop, Lloyiso for Never Thought I Could, Leigh-Anne for My Ego Told Me To, and Himra for SORRY I'M BAD.

Davido wasn't the only Nigerian star celebrating on the night — Tems took home Best Female West Africa, while Ruger won Best Male West Africa.

Elsewhere, Fally Ipupa was named Artist of the Year, BNXN and Sarz won Song of the Year, Phyno claimed Best Male Act, DJ Tunez won Best DJ Africa, and Timaya received the Timeless Impact Award.

Released in April 2025 via Davido Music Worldwide, Columbia Records and Sony Music Entertainment, 5ive features collaborations with artists including Omah Lay, Chris Brown, Tay Iwar and Shenseea, and had earlier picked up a nomination for Afrobeats Album of the Year at the 2026 Headies.
