David Umahi, the current Minister of Works under President Bola Tinubu's administration, has voiced his disenchantment with certain political figures he supported during the 2023 general elections. These individuals, he claims, have since distanced themselves from him.

In a press statement issued in Abakaliki on Thursday, May 30, 2024, the former Governor of Ebonyi State lamented the cold shoulder he's received from some National Assembly members he once aided. Despite this, Umahi remains unfazed by their current stance.

"“It is only Chief Onyekachi Nwebonyi who will openly acknowledge that I am his father and boss The others feel that by doing so, the state governor, my successor, will be angry with them.

“The governor cannot do that because he too openly acknowledges that I was instrumental to his emergence,” Umahi stated.

Umahi credits himself for playing a pivotal role in the governor's rise to power, a sentiment the governor himself has expressed publicly.

The shift in dynamics has prompted Umahi to transition from cultivating political 'godsons' to fostering 'political friends' instead. He emphasizes his commitment to supporting the governor and maintaining respect for the office.

“I will fight anybody who makes trouble with the governor because he deserves our respect.

“I have done my bit, have left the stage and have to respect myself,” he said.

Umahi expressed his unwavering support for Governor Nwifuru, appreciating the opportunity to bring unity among the state's leaders.

He remains confident in his decision to endorse Nwifuru as his successor, reflecting on their 16-year acquaintance and mutual support during Umahi's switch to the APC.
