Journalist David Hundeyin has accused the Nigerian government of using the arrested Binance CEO to shut down citizens fighting against corruption in the government.

His comment comes following the disappearance of whistleblower PIDOMNigeria, who is known for leaking a series of high-profile government documents.

In an article revealing details of his interaction with an alleged family member of PIDOM who insists on not going public with PIDOM’s disappearance and the series of cyber attacks he received in the process.

According to Hundeyin, he suspects PIDOMNigeria may be dead, and the government is using his accounts to fish him out of his hiding and arrest him.

He claimed that the conversation he had with the said PIDOMNigeria’s close associate was suspicious after the person reached out to him two weeks after PIDOM was arrested in Port Harcourt, offering him the login details on the instructions of PIDOM should anything happen to him.

The associate said that PIDOM was arrested on August 5, 2024, and transferred to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja shortly thereafter, where he remains under the purview of the National Cybercrime Centre (NCCC).

PIDOM was accused of computer-related fraud and was granted police administrative bail under stringent conditions. He was to produce a grade 16 government employee, who has a landed property in Abuja worth five hundred million, among others.

Hundeyin, who suspected foul play, pressed for further information and threatened to go public if the person failed to comply. He accused the person of working for the government to ascertain his claim.

Recall that on August 13, the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, announced that its outfit has arrested key sponsors of the nationwide protests and frozen crypto funds linked to them.

According to Hundeyin, PIDOM carries out most of his daily transactions using crypto, and in fact, he had his Tether and bitcoin wallet addresses pinned to the top of his Twitter profile.

It was also discovered that PIDOM’s Tether address had recorded multiple interactions with centralised crypto exchanges like KuCoin, Binance, and OKX.

Hundeyin raised concerns over the arrest of Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan and PIDOM by the Nigerian government. He questioned if the government obtained his KYC information from Binance.
