The Youth and Sports Development Minister, Sunday Dare has expressed his fear and disappointment at the increasing spate of insecurity in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, and other parts of the state.

He made the statement while addressing the fracas that occurred on Wednesday, June 16, at Iwo Road in Ibadan, which led to the loss of lives and property.

Protesting traders took the body of a victim, Rahman Azeez, who was reportedly stabbed to death, to the Governor’s Office at Agodi in Ibadan.

Dare condemned the activities of thugs and miscreants, whose activities he said had remained unbridled by the government.

The minister said the state, which enjoyed peace and security under Makinde’s predecessor, was sliding into a breeding ground for thuggery and hooliganism.

“Oyo State is very dear to me. The progress of Oyo is always on the top of my priorities. That is why the unsettling news of insecurity consistently being reported from Oyo State bothers me.

“Only a peaceful state can enjoy development; only a peaceful state can progress. I want to implore Governor Makinde to take charge of the issue of security and put it on top of his priority list.

“The loss of lives that happened at Iwo Road yesterday (Wednesday) could have been avoided. The security architecture of the state needs to be revamped and shaken up,” he lamented.
