For his five decades, veteran Nigerian entertainer Daddy Showkey will be honoured with a star-studded music concert scheduled for August 9, 2026, at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos.

Tagged ‘The Journey – Celebrating 5 Decades of Culture, Resilience and Music,’ the event is being organised by ConfamMade Entertainment in collaboration with Yaw Naija Production. Red carpet activities are expected to begin at 5 p.m, while the main show kicks off at 6 p.m.

Producer of the event and radio presenter Steve Onu, aka Yaw, said the concert was conceived to celebrate Nigerian music legends whose contributions have shaped the country’s entertainment industry. GeographicReference

“I have taken it upon myself to celebrate the legends who made our growing up fun. A lot of people may not remember them often basically because we have a flood of new artists, but people like Daddy Showkey were there from the onset, and seeing him mark 50 years as a performer is worth celebrating,” Yaw said.

The celebration is expected to feature performances from some of Nigeria’s biggest music stars, including 2Baba, Faze, Marvelous Benji, KCee, African China, 9ice, King Saheed Osupa, Oritse Femi, Originator, Stereo Man, Iyanya, Pasuma and several other artists.

Born John Odafe Asiemo, Daddy Showkey is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of Nigeria’s Galala music movement, a street-inspired sound that dominated the country’s music scene in the 1990s. Raised in the Ajegunle area of Lagos, he built a reputation for blending reggae, dancehall and indigenous rhythms into socially conscious and energetic songs that resonated with the urban working class. His rise to fame came through a string of hit records, including ‘Fire Fire,’ ‘Diana,’ and ‘Somebody Call My Name,’ earning him a loyal following across Nigeria and beyond. His trademark dreadlocks, energetic stage performances and use of Ajegunle street slang helped define an era in Nigerian pop culture.

Beyond his commercial success, Daddy Showkey is credited with opening doors for many musicians from Ajegunle, a community that has since produced several notable entertainers. His influence can still be heard in contemporary Afrobeats and street-pop music, with many younger artists acknowledging his impact on their careers.

Despite surviving a near-fatal shooting incident in 2007 that affected one of his eyes, Daddy Showkey returned to the stage and has remained active as a performer, cultural ambassador and advocate for youth development.
