The former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Abdulrasheed Bawa, has been released from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) after several months.

His release was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday, October 26, by secret police.

The DSS spokesman Peter Afunanya said; “DSS confirms release of former EFCC chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, a few hours ago (today 25th October 2023).”

Following Bawa’s release, a video of the ex-EFCC chair being welcomes by his wives and children is making rounds on social media.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu suspended Bawa as the chairman of the anti-graft agency. It was reported that his suspension was as a result of allegations of abuse of office levelled against him.

According to the Director of Information of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Willie Bassey, the move was to allow for thorough probe into the allegations.

Tinubu directed the Commission’s Director of Operations Abdulkarim Chukkol to step in as the acting chair of the EFCC.

On October 12, Tinubu appointed Ola Olukoyede as the EFCC chairman. This will be for a period of four years, as stated by presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale.
