‘Cyberbullying’: Okafor’s suit against Doris Ogala stalls again over ill health

A federal high court in Lagos has once again adjourned the cyberstalking case against Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, this time to October 28, 2026, following her failure to appear in court.

Ogala is being sued by Chris Okafor, founder of the Mountain of Liberty and Miracle Ministry. She was later arraigned on a four-count charge that includes publishing personal materials without consent, spreading false information, cyberbullying, and attempted extortion.

At Tuesday’s proceedings, the case stalled for the second consecutive sitting due to Ogala’s absence.

N.C. Atulomah, Ogala’s lawyer, informed the court that his client was receiving treatment at a Federal Medical Centre.

He said he had filed two affidavits supporting the adjournment application and assured the court that Ogala would be present on the next hearing date.

However, prosecuting counsel Tolulope Mokuola expressed reluctance to consent to the adjournment request, noting that medical records showed Ogala had been discharged from the hospital.

He also questioned her claim of ill health, saying she recently took part in and won her party’s primary election after actively campaigning while vowing to request a bench warrant if she fails to appear at the next hearing date.

“I am reluctantly acceding to the counsel’s plea for adjournment in view of what I am seeing for the first time. However, if by the next adjourned date she is not in court, I will be asking for a bench warrant,” Mokolu said.

Akintayo Aluko, the presiding judge, then set the new hearing date for October 28, 2026.

The case had been adjourned at the last sitting as well, also due to Ogala’s absence over health reasons. She had reportedly undergone surgery just two days earlier.

Ogala had alleged she was in a relationship with Okafor from 2017 and ended her previous marriage at his urging, accusing him of later betraying her despite promises of marriage.

She demanded he either marry her or pay compensation, eventually seeking N1 billion in damages.

Amid the dispute, Okafor married Pearl, initially dismissing Ogala’s reaction as “the devil’s anger”.

He later apologised and acknowledged their past relationship, but subsequently retracted the apology, claiming he was under pressure.
