Court remands suspected killer of two brothers in Kogi

A Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lokoja has remanded a 47-old-man, Tahairu Abdul for allegedly killing two brothers in Kogi state.

The suspect, also known as Iyepopo, was arraigned in a suit No.CML239th/2022 on Monday, September 26, before Chief Magistrate A. M. Mopa.

The suspect was alleged to have conspired with others and killed Sylvester Mohammed-Sule, a traditional title holder and his brother, Onwocho Sule, a retired naval officer, at their houses in Aku community in Ankpa Local government of Kogi on January 29, 2020.

The prosecutor, Inspector Toyin Momoh, told the court that the accused committed the offences of criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide punishable with death and mischief by fire contrary to sections 97(1), 223 and 337 of the Penal Code.

Inspector Momoh added that police preliminary investigation led to the arrest of the suspected killer, Tahiru, who had been on the run since he allegedly committed the offence.

"The suspect, along with other accomplices now at large, killed the two brothers in their respective houses and also set several houses, vehicles, motorcycles, and other valuable property yet to be estimated ablaze,” Inspector Momoh added.

When the case came up before the court, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor requested the court to forward the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

Chief Magistrate Mopa ordered that the accused be remanded at Koton-Karfe correctional centre and adjourned the case to October 6, 2022.
