Court grants Emefiele bail

Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele has been granted bail by a Federal High Court in Abuja.

Justice Olukayode Adeniyi gave his ruling on Wednesday, and asked his lawyers to ensure he is present in court on November 15, when he is scheduled to be arraigned before another judge of the High Court of the FCT in a charge earlier filed by the EFCC against him and one other person.

Emefiele was granted bail after the EFCC had failed to comply with the order of the FHC directing it to produce Emefiele in court on Monday or release him unconditionally.

The court restated its order and adjourned proceedings till Wednesday, November 8.

The EFCC however, complied with the order as Emefiele was led into the court by heavily armed operatives for his bail application.

Prior to the end of the court proceedings, the judge granted Emefiele bail.

Emefiele has been in the custody of Security agencies for over 149 days.
