A Nigerian man has disclosed on social media platform, Twitter that the coronavirus pandemic caused the death of his father and uncle.

The man, with the handle, @shogunemy made the comment after veteran actress, Kate Henshaw disclosed that she has just taking her coronavirus test.

"People need to take covid seriously. I lost my uncle and my dad to the virus. It hit me too. The virus is very real," he wrote.

While some users sent him consolatory messages, other debunked his claims, stating that the death might have been caused by malaria.

"Is not covid-19 but searious malaria," the user wrote.

Meanwhile, Nigeria has recorded 298 new cases of the coronavirus pandemic, bringing to 49,068 the total number of confirmed cases in the country.

Announcing this yesterday, August 16, 2020, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said Plateau recorded 108 cases.

Kaduna, 49; Lagos, 47; Ogun, 18; Osun, 17; Federal Capital Territory (FCT), 15; Ondo, 14; Edo, 8; Oyo, 6.

The other are, Akwa Ibom and Cross River, 4 each; Borno, 3; Ekiti, 2; Bauchi, 1; Kano, 1; Rivers, 1

It said: “Nigeria has so far recorded 49,068 cases of COVID-19. 36,497 patients have been discharged, while 975 persons have died.”
