Coronavirus in Nigeria: Uber driver who gave Italian man a ride cries out

With coronavirus now confirmed in Nigeria, an Uber driver has alerted the public after he gave an Italian man a lift with his car.

He stated this in reaction to the news that government is intensifying effort to locate those who have had contact with an Italian man who fell ill to the virus after he came into Nigeria from Italy a few days ago.

Olugbenga Bodunrin who took to Twitter revealed that he picked up an Italian citizen at the airport and even dined with him.

He tweeted: “I had contact with Italian citizen the day before yesterday. Am an uber driver I picked him at airport. We talk, gist and laugh together. We even dine together… My name is olugbenga bodunrin. 08136464040”.

Meanwhile, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said that steps have been put in place to ensure the prevention of the spread of coronavirus which has been confirmed in Lagos State.

"The Government under my leadership through @LSMOH, has been strengthening measures to ensure that any outbreak in Lagos is quickly controlled and contained in collaboration with the multi-sectoral Coronavirus Preparedness Group, led by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

"We have immediately activated the State Emergency Operations Centre to respond to this case and implement firm control measures. We encourage you all not to panic. Go about your normal daily activities and observe basic hygiene".
