Following the advent of eight new confirmed coronavirus cases in Nigeria, Greif Nigeria Plc has announced a travel ban for all its employees as well as social distancing rules for workers engaged by the firm.

In a notice filed by the company to the Nigerian Bourse, it warned its employees against meeting more than five people internally or externally due to the rapid spread of the deadly virus.

In addition, the company which offers services for steel punching and aluminum welding postponed its Annual General Meeting initially scheduled for Tuesday, March 31st, 2020 to Tuesday, June 23rd, 2020.

Explaining the importance of this advisory, it said it was concerned with the safety and health of its employees, their families and the general public at large. It also advocated for social distancing as a means of preventing the virus.

"Greif is concerned with the safety and health of its employees, their families and the general public at large. As a result of this, the Company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) which is scheduled to hold on Tuesday 31st March 2020 has now been postponed by the Board of the Company and rescheduled to the meeting to hold on Tuesday, 23rd June 2020.

"Greif believes that the only way to truly reduce the spread of the virus is with social distancing for as long as possible until this recedes," the statement read in part.

The firm apologised for any inconvenience its latest announcement would cause. Greif will be the first firm on the Nigerian Bourse to move in this direction.
