Coronavirus: Civil servants to work from office twice a month

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu

The Lagos State Government has announced that civil servants are to appear at their place of work twice a month to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.

This decision was taken after a careful review of the working hours and other modalities of the public workers.

As the confirmed cases of coronavirus continue to rise, the state government embarked on a review to protect the public servants under its payroll.

In December last year, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu instructed civil servants in the state from Level 14 and below to work from home.

Head of Service (HoS), Hakeem Muri-Okunola, explained that the lives of the workers are important hence the review.

He hinted that the rate at which civil servants are testing positive to the virus is at an alarming rate.

Muri-Okunola urged the officers to develop measures to curb the spread of the COVID-19 in their ministries, departments and agencies.

“I wish to note with deep concern the spate at which officers are testing positive to COVID-19 and hereby enjoins all accounting officers to come up with duty rosters to stem the outbreak in your respective MDAs.

“The roster should be prepared with an officer having to report for duty at most, twice a month. Note that this directive is without prejudice to existing directives and only reinforces same which are in effect and compliance abysmal,” the HoS said in the memo.
