Commissioner for Health in Cross River State, Betta Edu, has disclosed that 13 corps members who came in for their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme have contracted COVID-19.

The Commissioner for Health in Cross River State, Betta Edu, has disclosed that 13 corps members who came in for their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme have contracted COVID-19, Premium Times reported.

Edu made the disclosure when giving the breakdown of COVID-19 infection in the state.

She told Premium Times that the state on Sunday, January 24, recorded 20 cases of the infection, the highest so far.

The commissioner stated that data from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) showed that the total number of confirmed cases in the state is now 18.

She attributed the rise in the number of infections to the corps members who came in for NYSC programme.

Edu said: ''We had people who came in from the NYSC, about 13 of them were positive cases. So, these are people who moved into our state from other states.

“The other ones are people who are residents in the state."
