Controversial IREV glitch in 2023 won surface again – Amupitan declares

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof Joash Amupitan, says the controversial IREV glitch that marred the 2023 general elections will be eliminated.

Prof Amupitan gave the assurance during a Citizens Town Hall Meeting on the Electoral Act 2026 held in Abuja on Sunday, March 1.

He stressed that such a glitch won't surface in Nigeria again.

“The glitch in INEC IREV in 2013 has been eliminated; by God’s grace, it will not surface in Nigeria again,” he said.

Recall that the Senate approved the electronic transmission of election results, with manual collation retained as a backup.

DAILY POST had reported that President Bola Tinubu has signed the Electoral Act, 2022 (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill 2026 into law barely 24 hours after it was passed by the National Assembly.
