Contact tracing: 55 passengers monitored for coronavirus

The Federal Ministry of Health has revealed that it is still monitoring passengers that arrived Lagos on the February 24 flight that had the Italian man- Nigeria's first coronavirus case onboard.

The Ministry said 61 individuals were under supervised isolation by States while 55 passengers from the flight were being monitored by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control and the Port Health Service.



"We have continued contact tracing; 61 individuals are under supervised isolation by States. 55 passengers from the flight are being monitored by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control and Port Health Service (PHS) for symptoms of a possible appearance of #COVID19.

"As of March 6, there are only 21 suspected cases of #COVID19 across Lagos, Ogun Kano and FCT. Only 1 case has tested positive to COVID19,” a statement from the Ministry read.

The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire urged Nigerians to desist from spreading fake news. Rather he asked them to follow the Ministry's press statements to be abreast of the country's response to the virus.

“Citizens are urged not to spread misinformation that causes fear and panic. Nigerians can stay informed on the latest developments around #COVID19 through official channels such as Federal Ministry of Health, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Lagos State Ministry of Health," Ehanire stated.
