Unlike other FIFA competitions, the extended edition of the FIFA Club World Cup will not feature a third-place match.
This was revealed by football's governing body, FIFA, following the completion of the semi-final matches between Chelsea vs. Fluminense and Paris Saint-Germain vs. Real Madrid.
The Blues recorded a convincing 2–0 victory over the Brazilian club at the MetLife Stadium on Tuesday, July 8.
Paris Saint-Germain also thrashed Real Madrid 4–0 at the same venue on Wednesday, July 9.
All is set for the grand finale between PSG and Chelsea on Sunday, July 13, at the MetLife Stadium.
FIFA, in a statement, explained why there will be no third-place match:
“There will be no third-place match, or bronze final, at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.
“For the inaugural edition of this elite global competition, FIFA decided not to include this match to ensure that clubs and players who do not make the final can transition to their next commitments as soon as possible.”
