Primate Elijah Ayodele, leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has criticised the Federal Government for its silence on recent comments made by Islamic cleric Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir.

Ayodele argued that Jingir should be detained over his remarks and warned that not addressing such inflammatory statements from religious leaders could jeopardise peaceful coexistence in Nigeria.

The cleric voiced these concerns in a social media video responding to Jingir's alleged statement that those opposing a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket should leave Nigeria.

Jingir was also accused of calling Christians “infidels” in circulating videos. In response, Ayodele, via a video shared by Tunde Ednut, suggested that the government would have reacted differently if a Christian leader had issued similar comments.

“If the government does not caution this, then Christianity is in trouble in Nigeria. This senseless old fool, Islamic cleric Jingir, should be in jail by now.

“If a Christian had made such a statement, they would have picked him up immediately,” Ayodele said.
