Netizens have slammed author Chimamanda Adichie for urging Nigerians to support former presidential candidate Peter Obi and his quest to serve the country.

In a recent interview with Channels Television’s Amazing Africans, Adichie described Obi as a man who is not driven by ego or desperation for power.

This was after Obi declared that he only needs one term as President to turn things around for good in the country.

Adichie said, “He (Obi) doesn’t need to be president. He wants to be because he cares about Nigeria, but he doesn’t need to be. And that is a very important distinction. There are people who are desperate to become president, not because they have any good intentions for the country, but because of their egos."

However, netizens didn't buy her plea, as they reminded her that Obi couldn't transform Anambra State for good after serving for eight years; hence, the reason why they won't trust him with four years as President.

In response to Adichie's plea for Obi to be allowed to serve the country, netizens reminded her that he's already doing so at parties.

@DbPragmatic said, "Obi is already serving rice and swallow at function and his house. Let him continue to serve like that."

@Laycon30BG said, "Mr Peter Obi is already serving plate of rice at party so what else does he want?"

@tajudine2013gm2 said, "He served in Anambra State for 8 years without any visionary achievements."

@kunle_codes said, "This mumu woman barely speaks about Nigerian politics has suddenly found her voice because it’s an ibo man that’s contesting, bunch of hypocrites."

@Naijatvv said, "No problem, everyone wants to serve. But tell him to fight for the ticket. If he can’t defeat insiders within his own camp, how will he stand against the real heavyweights out there? He has never truly engaged in internal party politics. Just look at how a single mother took land from him in Lagos State, rather than fighting to reclaim it, he ran to social media to cry about it."
