Chief White House Correspondent, Simon Ateba, has lamented that no one is advising US President Donald Trump against declaring war on Nigeria and South Africa.
MyNigeria reported that Trump recently declared that America would storm Nigeria "Gybs-a-Blazing: to stop the killings of Christians by Fulani and Islamic militia.
In a post on X, Journalist Ateba urged Trump to consider the fact that Nigeria and South Africa are America's biggest trading partners in Africa.
He said, "Unfortunately, there’s no one around to help @realDonaldTrump. No one from Africa to tell him that you don’t declare war on South Africa and Nigeria — the two most powerful nations on the continent and America’s biggest trading partners, both being actively courted by China and others.
"You work with them based on U.S. interests. When it comes to security challenges, you cooperate — because once Nigeria becomes unstable, the entire region becomes unstable.
"The yes-men around him can’t tell him the truth. No wonder they’re blocking me because of my coverage of the 2024 presidential election. No backbone. Not a single person willing to ask, “What’s your game plan here?”
"If you truly want to strengthen ties with Nigeria, South Africa, Cameroon, and the rest, do it based on mutual U.S. interests — because Nigeria and its neighbors can help America achieve its objectives just as much as the U.S. can help them achieve theirs.
"Unfortunately, this is what happens when there’s no adult in the room."
