Off the back of an earlier report by Mynigeria.com that focused on Northerners who have occupied the highest office of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), we cast the spotlight on the few men from the South to occupy the seat as well.

Chief Louis Orok Edet

Chief Louis Orok Edet was the first indigenous Nigerian to occupy the position of Inspector General of the Nigeria Police Force from 1964–1966.

He served for two years before handing it over to Kam Selem.

Edet was born in Calabar the Southern part of Nigeria.

Sunday Adedayo Adewusi

Sunday Adedayo Adewusi was a Nigerian policeman and former Inspector General of Police. He was appointed in 1981 to succeed Adamu Suleiman and was succeeded by Etim Inyang in 1983. He died at the age of 79 in 2016. He was born in Nassarawa State of Nigeria.

Adewusi is from Ogbomosho, the South West part of Nigeria.

Etim Okon lnyang

Etim Okon lnyang was a Nigerian Policeman and former Inspector General of Police. He succeeded Sunday Adewusi in 1983.

Inyang who hails from the southern part of the country died at the age of 84 in Lagos, Nigeria.

Alhaji Musiliu Adeola Kunbi Smith

Alhaji Musiliu Adeola Kunbi Smith was appointed Inspector General of Police in May 1999. He retired in March 2002 following a police strike. He is from the South West region.

Ogbonna Okechukwu Onovo

Ogbonna Okechukwu Onovo is a former Inspector General of the Nigerian Police (IGP). He served from July 2009 to September 2010. He was appointed IGP upon the retirement of Mike Mbama Okiro.
