Chaos in Labour Party as politician drags Peter Obi to court over candidacy

Mr Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP) towards Nigeria's 2023 general elections has been involved with some controversy with regards to his party.

In a Facebook post by Maria Ude Nwachi on June 6, 2022, sighted by MyNigeria, one Mr Sampson Charles Uchenna has taken Peter Obi to court because according to him, he holds the presidential ticket of the Labour Party and not Peter Obi.

"Dissension in Labour party as Mr Sampson Charles Uchenna claims to be the rightful holder of the party presidential ticket and not Peter Obi. Both factions are in court.

"RE. The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered that the Labour Party and some of its officials be served with a fresh suit pertaining to its leadership crisis through a substituted means. The judge, Inyang Ekwo, made the order on Monday after hearing an ex parte application filed by a former Deputy national chairman of the party, Calistus Okafor," she wrote.

On May 29, very much to the surprise of many Nigerians, Peter Obi deferred from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) citing to “recent developments” which do not align with his personal principles as his reason.
