A businesswoman in Cross River, Victoria Mba, has alleged that his 22-year-old son, Moses Mba, was shot by police officers at the Cross River governor's former residence. She called for justice over the death of her son.
The bereaved mother also dismissed the attempt to label her son as someone who is mentally ill and subsequently demanded an autopsy on Moses' death.
Abia woman accused police of killing her son
Speaking in an interview with The Punch on Saturday, September 6, the 40-year-old Abia businesswoman narrated that Moses would have turned 23 by November 2025, but the young Mba died at the age of 22.
Victoria Mbah narrated that she and her husband had travelled for a burial at the village, but on their return on August 1, 2025, they received a call to report to the Navy Clinic in Calabar, the state capital, where Moses was admitted.
She added that they were told that Moses had gone to the residence of the former governor, identified as the State House in Calabar. On getting to the place, he was denied entry by five policemen, who asked him if he had an appointment there.
Why Cross River police killed pastor
But Moses said he was given a vision by God to deliver to the governor. He had left for the first time, but returned and requested to see the governor, but his request was again denied. Victoria Mba said they were told that the late Moses was treated as a threat. He was said to have been beaten and left in a pool of blood from about 11 am till late afternoon.
Some Red Cross officials who heard a gunshot around the area visited to investigate the matter and found her son in a critical condition. They were the ones who took him to the Navy Hospital. She then lamented that the government was more concerned about covering up the matter than saving Moses' life.
She narrated that the policemen were stationed around him at the hospital like a criminal. She then questioned the governor's indifference about the matter and disclosed that the governor was reported to have requested the reason "Moses dared to approach his residence."
