Former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has said it is an insult to celebrate the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to him, Buhari's administration was full of mass killings, corruption and incompetence, among others, rendering him unfit for celebration.
Sowore said this after an event was held on Monday at the State House Conference Centre, which saw the unveiling and public presentation of a book, *From Soldier to Statesman – The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari*, authored by Dr Charles Omole.
Reacting, Sowore said, "It is an insult to Nigerians that at a time when people are still reeling from the devastation of Muhammadu
@MBuhari’s disastrous reign, marked by mass killings, egregious violation of human rights, bigotry, corruption, and staggering incompetence, anyone would choose to add insult to injury by attempting to celebrate him.
"Nigerians who endured the suffering inflicted by his administration know the depth of the damage. To glorify that legacy now is not just insensitive; it is an affront to a nation still struggling, and in many ways unable, to recover."
Despite Sowore's claims, President Bola Tinubu, who graced the book launch, stated that his administration will continue to honour former President Buhari by sustaining his legacies of purposeful leadership, discipline, integrity, and the belief that public office is a trust, not a windfall.
He said the book offers Nigerians the opportunity to learn from President Buhari, and affirmed that the greatest honour to bestow on the late President is to sustain his legacies.
"This book reinforces the public memory. It outlines achievements and flaws, as all honest histories should. It should motivate future leaders to learn lessons rather than repeat slogans.
He noted that Buhari's legacy gains greater meaning when those who follow choose to continue what he started.
"That is my duty, and I pledge that today," the President stated.
