COVID-19 has exposed elaborate weddings - Media personality

Descriptive purpose only Descriptive purpose only

A media personality, Chidi Okereke has said that the COVID-19 pandemic has revealed that weddings do not have to be elaborate.

With social distancing and other restrictions in place to help curb the spread of COVID-19, some Nigerians have been holding weddings with very few guests.

Taking to Twitter, Okereke stated that the weddings done in this COVID-19 pandemic have shown that elaborate weddings should not be the standard for weddings.

He tweeted: "I like how COVID has shown people that weddings do not have to be elaborate. Just you, your wife and closest family/friends. The rest can join via zoom. No stress of travelling, renting hall or vendors that will give you HBP. No asoebi. Just the main thing - 2 becoming one. Loveet.

"LOL. People who are saying “elaborate weddings are a choice” are being disingenuous. Of course, ‘everything’ is a choice, but when society normalizes and makes something the standard, is it still a choice? Did you really choose if what you’re doing is what is EXPECTED of you?

"And oh, if you want a big wedding, please go right ahead. It’s a very important day, and if you can afford it, make it as fab as possible. I’m only just happy people SEE that unions are possible without straining their pockets. And I know more people will opt for super-simple".
