COVID-19: Your View talk show host speaks in favour of Zoom weddings

Mariam Longe, one of the hosts of popular talk show 'Your View', has advised couples planning on getting married to opt for what she described as Zoom weddings.

In the show held today May 28, 2020, the show hosts discussed the effect of COVID-19 on wedding ceremonies in Nigeria.

This was prompted by the story of a man who is already losing interest in his fiancee who rejected his choice of a lowkey wedding due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

For couples whose wedding plans have been hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic which calls for social distancing, Mariam Longe advised they opt for Zoom weddings.

This will enable guests to watch the event on the conference app called Zoom if they are unable to attend the wedding due to social distancing order.

"Zoom weddings are not 'westernization' per se. White people would rather do their thing in their closet and move on. It's African for us to gather together to witness a union and the Zoom technology is helping us achieve that already", she said.

Co-host Yeni Kuti said, "The excuse of waiting till she can hold a memorable party is not tenable at all. If you are pregnant and due in the lockdown, will you wait till it's over before you give birth?".
