COVID-19: Over 500 Europeans evacuated from Nigeria

At least 673 Europeans have left Nigeria via German airline, Lufthansa and Air France, in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

The flights left the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, according to reports from Punch.

Nigeria has recorded a total of 174 positives cases of coronavirus with two deaths, according to the NCDC.

Although closed for normal flight operations as part of measures to curtail further importation of COVID-19 into the country, evacuation flights are permitted by the Federal Government.

While 238 Germans were evacuated by Lufthansa, Air France evacuated 399 French and Dutch citizens.

Of the 399 French and Dutch citizens evacuated, 142 were said to have been airlifted from Cotonou, Benin Republic while 257 others joined the flight at the Lagos airport.

The Air France flight was one of the three expected to evacuate Dutch and French nationals from Nigeria.

MyNigeria informed you earlier had reported that the European Union would begin evacuation of citizens in the Eurozone.

The first flight was operated on March 26 while the next evacuation is expected to take place on April 9.
