The Republic of Ghana has banned flights into its borders.

This is coming after the coronavirus cases in the Gold Coast rose to six cases from two in less than 3 days.

In a statement signed by the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, it banned travel into its borders till further notice.

It stated that it will not entertain non-Ghanaians or tourists who have been to any country with at least 200 cases of the virus into its borders. It issued the same order to airlines and border posts to return people whence they came.

It stated that a 14-day self-quarantine would be observed by persons who were allowed to enter Ghana during this period. This majorly refers to Ghanaian citizens with residence permits whom the travel advisory permits entry into the country. It stated that guidelines for self-quarantine will be displayed at various ports of entry in collaboration with security and state authorities.

Failure to self-quarantine satisfactorily will lead to quarantine by the State.

It also promised to test and quarantine any traveler who exhibits coronavirus flu-like symptoms upon reaching Ghana.

The ban on flights into Ghana is already in effect. However, the other items reflected in this statement would come into effect in two-days time on Tuesday, March 17th, 2020.
