Arik Air has distributed a total of 400 bags of 10kg rice and 400 bags of 10kg beans to some communities in Lagos on Tuesday.

The Ewu-Tuntun community in Mafoluku and Orile-Agege local council development area were beneficiaries of Arik's palliative which came in the form of corporate social responsibility.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Sylvester Egogo, Arik business head for central and west Africa, said the move was the company’s way of extending a hand of support to its host communities.

“The situation in the country calls for concern and Arik management is very much aware that the government cannot do everything.”

“We are not also trying to do everything, but supporting residents in various communities within our operations.

“This is just to cushion the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic in those communities close to us, and I hope this will meet their needs.

“Airlines have not been working for the past two months now, but we came to empathise with people to support in our own little way and also a way of giving back to the community.”

Egogo said the palliatives were channelled through the leaders of the communities, traditional rulers for effective administration, which he said was well coordinated.[The Cable]
