Lawan Andimi, the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa State, has been declared missing following an attack by Boko Haram insurgents which occurred on January 2.

According to Mr Ngida Zakawa, the head of Michika, Andimi who received a delegation of the Adamawa State Government was last seen in the company of strange men.

Eyewitnesses also revealed that the chairman was seen boarding a Hilux van with unknown men.

Zakawa said:

“We did not lose any civilian life but some shops were looted by the insurgents while the whereabouts of CAN chairman is unknown, except that some women claimed they saw him boarding a Hilux van."

This is coming a few weeks after Nigeria got listed in a U.S watchlist of Nations with religious intolerance.

Reacting to the list, CAN in a statement by its Special Assistant, Media and Communications, Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, said:

“We are not happy that our country is being listed among the nations where religious intolerance is one of their hallmarks but it gladdens our hearts that at least the global community is not unaware of the fact that Nigerian Christians are becoming endangered species in their land.”
