The Private sector-led Coalition Against COVID-19 has set aside N23 billion to feed 10 million Nigerians.

According to a tweet by oil magnate, Femi Otedola, the food items would reach 1.67 million households across the wards of the 774 local government areas soon.

The essence of this act is to support the government-led efforts in reducing the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on the citizens.

Promising to be transparent, Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele said the numbers will be audited and accessible on their website.

These numbers would be audited and I have told the CACOVID communication to put the name of the donors on our website. Even if you donated one naira, your name will be on the list. All expenditures would be released for everyone to see," Emefiele said.

"So far, we have raised N25 billion naira. This is still very far like I said from where we would love to be. We are eyeing 40 - 50 billion because the food component alone is over N20 billion," he added.

"We are buying N23bn worth of food items to be distributed in conjunction with the State Government. We know 200 million people are resident in the country, so we are taking 5% of the 200 which is 10 million people. We are targeting 1.67 million households. We will start giving food in the next 10 days. We also bought the food directly from the manufacturers to cut cost, Africa's Richest businessman, Aliko Dangote expressed.
