Buhari to launch Zobe water treatment plant

President Muhammadu Buhari will soon commission the multimillion naira Zobe water treatment plant located in Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The Katsina State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu, who made the above disclosure while inspecting the level of works at the project site at Zobe Dutsinma, said the visit is to assess the level of the progress of the project preparatory to the commissioning by the president.

He further expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done so far, adding that it has been hundred per cent completed.

He said, “The project was sponsored by the Federal Government (Phase 1a &11) while the state government completed phase 1b, which involves laying pipes to Karofi, K/Soli, Kankia & Charanchi which will be commenced soon.”

The Managing Director of State Water Board, Ibrahim Dasuƙi Abubakar, told the visitor that the water treatment plant was designed to treat and pump 75 million litres of water per day but is now treating and pumping 50 million litres due to the problem of poor power supply.

He said, “Some areas like Katsina, Dutsinma and environs have already started benefitting from the water being supplied.

“The water treatment plant project was started over 25 years ago but abandoned by past governments but the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has completed it.”

The deputy governor was conducted round by the state Commissioner for Water Resources, Musa Adamu Funtua and Managing Director, Water Board, Ibrahim Dasuƙi.

Alhaji Yakubu also inspected the admin block, laboratory, backwashing equipment, compressor room, filter house, treatment section and high lift pumping station and generator room among others.
