Buhari's honour on Okowa proofs I made the right VP selection - Atiku jabs Wike

Former vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar has thrown a jab at Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike after his running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa was honoured by President Muhammadu Buhari for his outstanding service to the country.

Taking to his official Facebook page, whiles congratulating Okowa, he stated that the award shows he made the right decision in selecting him as his vice presidential candidate.

On Tuesday, October 11, President Buhari honoured a set of people for their outstanding contributions to the country.

Among the recipients honoured at the National Honours Award Investiture for 2022 include, Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa who is also the vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The ceremony held on Tuesday at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Shortly after the ceremony, Governor Okowa thanked God that he met the criteria to receive the award. He also said that the Award was for Nigerians who had contributed to nation-building

Okowas said; “I thank President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Honours Awards Committee for my investiture as a Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON), in recognition of my contributions to the development of the nation.

“I congratulate all Nigerians and distinguished Deltans who were also honoured with the various categories of National Awards.

“This award makes me to realise that I have contributed my bit and I hope it will spur me to think more about the growth and development of this country.

“I hope that together in commitment to this nation we will all continue to work with our people across Nigeria to find the growth path that can take us to Nigeria of our dream.

“I must say that I am humbled by this recognition and pledge to continue to play my role to make Nigeria a better nation that lives up to its full potential,” he stated.

Reacting to the honour, Presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar took to social media to congratulate his running mate on his award.

He noted that the award shows that he made the right decision in selecting Governor Okowa as his vice ahead of the 2023 election.

He wrote;

"Today's conferment of the National Honour on Governor Ifeanyi A. Okowa by President Muhammadu Buhari is a testimonial that I made the right decision in tapping an achiever as my Vice Presidential candidate for the 2023 election. On behalf of my family, our team and our supporters, I say congratulations! -AA"
