President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered all members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) running for elective offices to submit their letters of resignation on or before Monday the 16th of May, 2022.

This was disclosed by Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed on Wednesday, May 11 during the Federal Executive Council meeting.

He said the directive excludes Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo due to the fact that he is an elected member of the cabinet.

Mohammed affirmed that if there are any amendments or additions to this directive they would be made shortly.

He said the directive might involve political appointees if the need arises.

This follows a decision by the Federal High Court in Abuja, on Monday, which refused to shield the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emiefele, from being disqualified to contest for the presidential ticket of any political party ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The political appointees affected by this order include: Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba; Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige; Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele and Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Ogbonnaya Onu
