Steve Hanke, former advisor to Ronald Reagan has described the just-ended 2023 presidential election that pronounced Bola Ahmed Tinubu victorious as "flawed".

Hanke who has been a critic of the Buhari-led administration opines that the president leaves behind a "dismal legacy, corruption, a junk currency."

Hanke in a tweet wrote: "After 8 years as Nigeria’s president, Buhari leaves behind a dismal legacy: CORRUPTION, A JUNK CURRENCY, SOARING INFLATION, and last but not least, a FLAWED PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION in which his man, Bola Tinubu, was pronounced the winner."

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu declared the ruling party, APC, as the winner of Saturday’s presidential election.

Mr Tinubu defeated 17 other candidates who took part in the election. He scored a total of 8,794,726 votes, the highest of all the candidates, thus meeting the first constitutional requirement to be declared the winner.

He also scored over 25 per cent of the votes cast in 30 states, more than the 24 states constitutionally required.
