The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) has heaped blames on the 8th National Assembly for delaying the passage of 2018 budget.

He made this statement during his New Year message to Nigerians.

Comparing the relationship of 8th National Assembly to the 9th, he noted that the synergy was different.

He commended the 9th Assembly for working tirelessly to pass the 2020 Appropriation Act speedily, saying the current relationship between the Executive and Legislature is a sharp contrast to what occurred in the past.

Buhari's words “Let me pay tribute to the Ninth National Assembly who worked uncommonly long hours to make sure that the 2020 budget scrutiny is both thorough and timely.

"The close harmony between the Executive and Legislature is a sharp contrast to what we have experienced in the recent past, when the Senate kept the previous budget for 7 months without good reason just to score cheap political points thereby disrupting the budgetary processes and overall economic development plans."

He however promised to hit the ground running with the swift passage of the bill.
