A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has said that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), under the leadership of former President Muhammadu Buhari and President Bola Tinubu, has failed Nigerians during their nine year tenure.
Following the handover of power from Buhari after eight years of his administration to Tinubu, who has spent one year in office with many lamenting hunger and economic hardship, Oguntoyinbo stated that the happenings in the country showed that the APC failed Nigerians.
He said this in a statement issued on Sunday, August 25, 2024, in Ibadan, Oyo State. According to him, Tinubu promised Nigerians that fuel subsidies would be removed and there wouldn’t be a scarcity of petroleum across the country; however, the opposite occurred.
Oguntoyinbo recounted how Tinubu pleaded with Nigerians shortly after Buhari became president nine years ago, assuring them that issues of electricity supply would be forgotten.
However, the NNPP chieftain stated that Nigerians are still experiencing all the problems that Buhari, Tinubu and their political party failed to solve since 2015.
“However, nine years after, with Bola Tinubu as president, the electricity supply is still low or non-available in many parts of the country. To make it worse, people cannot see petroleum products to buy, even when they are ready to cough out their hard earned money to buy it.
What this means is that the All Progressives Congress, (APC), that have been blaming the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the woes of the country, has also failed Nigerians after nine years in power.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must, as the Minister of Petroleum, find a solution to the current non-availability of fuel in the country. It is sad that we are witnessing a scarcity of petroleum now that Nigerians are celebrating a little reduction in the prices of foodstuffs. The little gain we have recorded will evaporate soon, and we will go back to square one due to the high cost of transportation as a result of the non-availability of petroleum products.
We cannot continue like this as a country, and the President needs to summon courage and find a lasting solution to the perennial fuel scarcity in the air parts of the country. What is currently happening should be looked at beyond politics. Former presidents and other statesmen should come out to offer solutions,” he said.
