Pro-democracy activist and 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, has reacted to the sentencing of crossdresser, Idris Okuneye popularly known as Bobrisky to six months in prison.

Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos, on Wednesday, April 12, 2024, sentenced Bobrisky to prison without an option of a fine for abusing the Nigerian currency.

The judgment has since caused a stir on social media with many including activist Sowore, questioning if the sentencing had to really do with Naira mutilation.

In a post shared on his X page, (formerly Twitter), Sowore quizzed why Bobrisky has been jailed while the real destroyers of the economy are yet to be arrested.

He mentioned names such as former President Muhammadu Buhari, former Attorney General, Malami, his former personal secretary Tunde Sabiu, and the former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele who has been granted bail despite facing trial in Lagos on a 26-count charge bordering on abuse of office.

Displeased by the sentencing of Bobrisky, Sowore wrote;

"The @officialEFCC is gleefully announcing that Bobrisky has been jailed for six months without an option of a fine for “mutilating” the Nigerian currency, the Naira.

The real people destroying the economy, like former President @MBuhari, his former Attorney General, Malami, his former personal secretary Tunde Sabiu, and even the former @cenbank governor, @GodwinIEmefiele, are yet to be jailed for the massive economic damage they did to ruin Nigeria.

The energy put into prosecuting and jailing a crossdresser, Bobrisky, shows his real offense could not have been spraying of Naira at a party.

Let's see how @officialEFCC handles cases involving real financial criminals, a long list-some being prosecuted since 2007-who destroyed the naira in the near future. #RevolutionNow"

Recall that Bobrisky was convicted on April 5, 2024, after he pleaded guilty to a four-count charge of naira abuse brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The counts includes Bobrisky being accused of tampering with N400,000 at Imax Circle Mall in Jakande, Lekki; N50,000 at Aja Junction in Ikorodu; N20,000 at White Steve Event Hall in Ikeja; and another N20,000 at an event hall in Oniru, Victoria Island, all between 2022 and 2023.
