Hoodlums have attacked officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), also known as KAI, while they were carrying out their lawful duty in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The incident occurred during their enforcement of environmental standards against the indiscriminate discharge of untreated wastewater, fats and oils into the environment in the area.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, revealed that the hoodlums who attacked the KAI officials were from Yakoyo Abula Restaurants, located at 134, Sinari Daranijo Street, Victoria Island.

He said the hoodlums from the restaurant injured four officials in the course of the operation.

"The Yakoyo restaurant not only broke the government’s seal, but they also went further to unleash armed thugs on officials who were lawfully carrying out their duties. This crosses every line.

"Let it be clear: Any individual or business that assaults, obstructs, or threatens government officers on duty will face decisive action. Such premises will be sealed without hesitation, and those responsible will be prosecuted," Wahab said.

The commissioner vowed that the government will not allow lawlessness to take root in Lagos, stressing that no one is above the law and that any attempt to intimidate government officials will be met with firm, immediate consequences.

He said the restaurant's supervisor was arrested, the facility was sealed until further notice, and that further arrests are to be made to fish out the perpetrators of this unlawful act.
