A 13-year-old boy has been released from prison after winning a blasphemy lawsuit filed against him in Kano last year.

The little boy was convicted by a Sharia court in August for making blasphemy comments about God whiles in an argument with a friend.

However, on Thursday, a secular court said the boy was a minor and overturned the judgment.

The ruling by the Sharia court last year, sparked several controversies, especially in the international community.

Unicef reacting to the ruling by the sharia court stated that the judgment opposes all underlying principles of child rights and child justice Kano state has signed unto.

Speaking to BBBC in an interview, the State Attorney-General, Musa Lawan indicated that the authorities are not pleased with the dismissal of the case against the 13-year-old. Adding that an appeal against the case will be considered.

In Nigeria, 12 states practice the Sharia law system and only tries Muslims in the Sharia Court.
