Nigeria's music industry has no doubt evolved. From the uniquely crafted Afrobeat originated and made popular by the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti to the more modern Afrobeats, music in Nigeria has never seen such diversity like it is experiencing at the moment.

That diversity has been made possible by Emeka Akumefule also known in the music industry as Blaqbonez. The unassuming character of the calm and talented 25-year-old rapper has catapulted him to a place where he has can confidently say he has earned the bragging rights.

Speaking in a no-holds-barred interview from his base in Accra where he is currently on a media tour, he explained that horning his talents in Nigeria's hostile music space was one of the most difficult things for him. He said, but for rap competitions organized by several brands in the country, he wouldn't have been able to connect with Vector, a man he said has played a key role in his career.

When quizzed on if controversy was a way of making himself relevant in the industry, he simply said: "Everybody is controversial, it's just that people don't act on it, people just think it. But for me, I think it and I do it. That is what makes me different."
